On a recent Target run, I saw a gorgeous display of new L’Oreal mascaras. When I picked one up I automatically thought DUPE! I had to purchase it, and couldn’t wait to get home to do a comparison with a more expensive popular mascara that I owned.
Before I get into what this mascara is a total dupe for, and actually even better in my opinion, I want to give you a review on the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara.
What the package claims:
- Lashes are feathery soft to the touch
- Women agreed: 91% saw intense and volumized lashes
- 87% saw more beautiful lashes
What is the retail value?
This mascara retails between $8.99 and $9.99 depending on where you purchase from. So far, I have spotted these at Target, and Ulta. You receive .028 oz per tube.
I am seriously loving this mascara, and find myself reaching for it every day so far. I am in love with everything from the frosted pink packaging, to the full, slightly hour glass shaped wand. My natural eyelashes are pretty long, but not very full. I feel like after having children that fullness just kind of went away, so I depend on mascara to bring that volume back. This mascara definitely came through, but I didn’t expect any less being that it comes from the fabulous Voluminous line.
The formula is a bit thick which I actually prefer over the more watery based formulas. It helps add that dramatic intense look that I love. Another thing I always look for in a mascara is the pigmentation. I always get the darkest shade that the brand offers. The darker, the better! Lash Paradise comes in three shades, “Black Brown”, “Black”, and “Blackest Black”. I had to grab “Black”because that was the only shade left, and I absolutely love how dark it shows up on my lashes. It really makes my brown eyes stand out.
The wand has 200+ bristles making it really simple to coat the lashes in one swipe of the wand. I always go in with three coats just to be dramatic lol. After applying the mascara, it felt tacky for about 5 minutes before completely drying. Once dried, I had to touch them to see for myself if the claim of feeling feathery soft was true, because let’s face it, lashes usually feel stiff after applying mascara, especially if you apply multiple coats. So the verdict to this claim is, TRUE! I am not going to say they felt like feathers lol, BUT definitely not stiff, or clumpy. It was nice to not feel like I was wearing a million coats of mascara even though I was. I can also agree with and say that I saw more intense, voluminous lashes. By the end of the day, my lashes were still lifted, and I experienced very little flaking.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Package Claims:
- 1,944% more volume
- 100% saw longer lashes
- 100% saw dramatic volume
- 93% saw base-to-tip curl
- 8 out of 10 say it’s the best mascara they’ve ever used
What is the retail value?
$23 for 0.27 oz.
L’Oreal Lash Paradise VS. Too Faced Better Than Sex:
Now to the fun part! While testing the Lash Paradise, I decided to just use it on one side and then apply the same amount of the Too Faced Better Than Sex on the other to see how they compare.
Too Faced’s tube is a bit larger than the L’Oreal Lash Paradise. The frosted pink packaging is practically the same color. The only difference is the text, and how the Better Than Sex tube is a bit heavier feeling.
I noticed that the Better Than Sex mascara formula is a bit thinner, and more watery than the Lash Paradise. It went on just as easily, but I didn’t see that dramatic intense black color that the Lash Paradise gave my lashes, and it didn’t lift them as much.
After allowing them to dry, I instantly preferred the L’Oreal Lash Paradise side. My lashes looked fuller, longer, more lifted, and darker. The Too Faced mascara felt stiff, and also had more flaking by the end of the day.
My Final Thoughts:
It’s obvious that the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara totally won me & my lashes over. Although I have loved Too Faced Better Than Sex for a long time, I am glad that I was able to find a product with a formula that I prefer better, with better results at a much more affordable price, and can easily restock from most drugstores.
Which mascara do you prefer? Let me know in a comment.
